    Hi,
This seems a little different to many of the similar scenarios posted.
Zanussi ZWG1140M suddenly stopped during spin cycle showing E60.

When I tried to see what was wrong the the drum never moved and E60 came up each time. A quick look on tinternet indicated motor problem so I took the motor our and checked the brushes and they seemed really worn. Popped some new brushes in and put back together. I tried to get a new belt as it was a bit freyed at the outside edge but they didn’t have the right one so I ended up putting the old one back on.

Started up, drum spinning nicely but motor slightly more “whiney” than I remembered. Anyway all seemed fine during the wash part but when it came to spin it never got faster than the normal drum speed while washing and time indicator was showing 7 mins then 6, 7, 6, 7, 6 so I stopped it. So far as I can tell, the motor is accelerating – it certainly changes it’s pitch higher and higher when it’s trying to spin and it’s possible that the belt is slipping but very difficult to see even with a sticker on the motor shaft as it turns into a blurr as soon as it speeds up. The belt seems very tight.

Any ideas folks – should I get a new belt or is there likely to be some other problem with the motor or controller?

    Thanks all 🙂

Was this with an empty load or full load?
Or did you try it with just a towel on its own for test purposes?

Ah you’re one of the select many that owns one of these Chinese made machines. A free ‘fortune cookie’ with every one sold. 😉

But seriously, assuming you’ve fitted the correct replacement brushes and that the armature hasn’t got any burnt or raised copper segments then the main PCB could be at fault? The belt is meant to be tight by the way so replacing it will not cure the problem you have by the way.

Re: Zanussi not spinning after replacing brushes

    Thanks for the replies folks!

I first tested with one garment but then realised that may cause the uneven load sensor to prevent spinning so then I tested it empty on just a spin cycle.

On the spin cycle with the drum empty, the motor seems to be stepping up the speed as it makes 3 different notes, each one higher pitched than the last. My instinct tells me the belt is slipping but there was no sign of that before I had to replace the brushes.

The guy in the spares shop didn’t have exactly the right brushes so took the internals out of a different set and popped them into the old plastic housing and then ground the angle on the carbon part to the opposite angle. It certainly seemed a good solution? Can’t see why that would cause any problem but maybe you know different?

    Thanks….

I’ve cleaned the filter and checked and confirmed it is draining properly.

The belt won’t slip on one of these. What condition is the armature in. Always pays to clean it when replacing brushes. Try it with a full balanced load in it

Grinding it back to the correct angle will cause a funny noise until they bed in. Always fit the correct ones

Re: Zanussi not spinning after replacing brushes

It seems to be OK now.

The only thing I can think is that the first time I tried it the load was unbalanced and the other times I was just too impatient, it took much longer to get up to speed than I thought.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. 😀
