We’ve got a Zanussi IZ141 which seems to be a good machine and does a good job. We’ve had it about 4 years.

However, it’s just started stopping towards the start of the cycle, but doesn’t give a error code on the dig display. It will run through the first couple of minutes of the cycle (taking water in), then stop. The light above the Start/Pause button flashes and you can’t do anything else apart from skip through to the next stage of the cycle to drain the machine, which it does.

I thought that there was possibly a blockage in one of the internal/external pipes, but have checked them all and they are clear.

It seems that the problem may be caused by either a filling or draining issue or the heating element not heating the water.

Given that it takes water in and I can drain the machine, I think I’m right in discounting these two.

I’m therefore of the opinion that the element is faulty, but would be grateful to someone else’s view please. Given that the machine stops, I cannot see whether the water is being heated – is there a way to test the element?

Thank you for your reply – is that the pump at the bottom front of the machine linked to the waste hose?

It has been making a grinding noise for some time which I just left as it seemed to be working ok.

OK, I’ll give that a try. If that doesn’t cure it, do you think it could be the heating element?
