ParticipantI have a Zanussi TC481W (916720044/01) tumble dryer and it is not heating. Everything else is functioning properly. I have replaced the thermostat, but the old one appeared Ok – ie it was closed circuit, and it is still not working. I don’t believe that there are any other thermostats so as far as I can tell the fault can only be the heater or the wiring. In the week before this happened, my other half said that there was a “hot smell” when the tumble dryer was operating.
I wonder if anyone can advise if this diagnosis seems reasonable. Is there a way of checking this without getting the heater out. This looks as though it requires getting the drum out ( I have done it before) as the heater element is not accessible. Is the heater readily available ?.
Any tips most welcome.
Many thanks
William

There are two stats on the element one of which is normally a manual reset
But on the later ones itโs a one shot
You get at it from the back of the dryerSeptember 20, 2006 at 7:55 am #189063Penguin45

Many thanks pto and Penguin45.
Sorry to be thick, but is the heating element enclosed in the white plastic ducting joined to the fan (in the bottom RHS lbehind the motor, looking from the back)?. To get to this it looks as though I need to take the back off and take the drum out as it is near the front of the machine. Is there an easier way to get to it ?. I have worked on other Tumble Dryers (non condensing) where the element was just behind the drum, but looking at the parts diagram for this machine, the heater looks like a small box. Are the thermostats on the heating element available as I haven’t seen them on any parts diagrams ?
To clarify, the thermostat I replaced was the one just inside the drum opening at the front (at the top)
Many thanks.

The heating element is in the fan housing at the back as far as I recall? ๐

Many thanks Martin. I will investigate tonight and determine what new parts I need.

I checked the heater and heater thermostats last night – it was much easier to get to than I had realised thanks to the input for here. The resettable thermostat had tripped so I reset it and all appears to be OK now. I can only assume that it tripped due to filters being blocked. I will keep an eye on it in case this was caused by the other heater thermostat not functioning properly and being stuck closed.
If I do need to replace the heater thermostat is it available from Shop@ ?
Many Thanks again
William
