    Hi All,
When i press the start button on my Zanussi TC102W tumble dryer it just hums and the drum does not move. The drum revolves freely by hand and the belt is in good condition. If I rotate the timer knob I can see sparks inside. Any help would be appreciated.

Most likely failure would be the capacitor. Access to the capacitor is gained by removing the right side body panel – now look for the small cylindrical part with 2 wires sited near the motor. Fitting is basically a straight swap.
Getting the correct microfarad rating is essential. This will be printed on the capacitor. (from memory, 8uf).
Power off, and plug out before any inspection commences. :plug: Sometimes capacitors hold a residual charge; this can be discharged safely by carefully removing the tags with insulated pliers and placing an insulated screwdriver across the 2 terminals. (ie: momentarily connect them together). Most likely the capacitor will not be charged, but it is worth taking the aforementioned precaution. 😉

    Hope that helps,

    Steve.
