KeymasterHi there,
my zanussi top loader was making some awful noises a little while ago and was dancing about the place. I opened it up to find the bearings in shreads and the balls everywhere but where they should be.
I have since purchased a new bearing kit for the left side and tried to fit it myself. on tightening it, it doesn’t slide over the drum axel but pushes against it. this holds it but doesn’t leave the drum centered.
Can someone advise me or point me into the right direction on fitting the bearing kit this machine?
Thank you.

But as far as I know there are 2 bearing units needed for this machine (left and right). One on the counterweight side, the other the drive pulley side. Both need changing on a job like this and will line up the inner drum as a result?

oh ok.
I have checked the right bearing and its fine. do i have to remove the whole thing to assemble the left bearing? and does it have to fit in one of those groves on the drum axel?

I wonder if you are fitting the correct bearing kit? The left Bearing Kit is part no: 4071306494 and differs from the right Bearing Kit part no: 4071306502.
Both come as a threaded hub unit that simply screws into position against the tub seal, automatically aligning the inner drum into position.
Also, has the drum shaft sustained any damage from the collapsing ball bearings that would cause the new ball race to jam on the shaft?

Assume by left bearings you mean the ones within the counterweight?
Some versions had a bolt through the bearing assy into the tub shaft & some were held with a circlip. Yours should be the bolt type, therefore no problem.
As long as all the old bearing is removed complete with housing and the drum shaft is clean, there should be no problem with the final positioning of the shaft in relation to the housing. You can use the bolt to draw the shaft back through the bearing to acheive the final position.
Take your time and don’t try to force anything.
