Zanuusi washer dryer starts a wash cycle then sometimes stops when the drain pump should go on leaving the drum full of soapy water?
If you turn the dial to drain only then sometimes the pump comes on then another time it just sits doing nothing.

Filter and output hose to drain checked ok. Squeezed the rubber boot under the drum with the plastic ball inside then the drain pump started up immediately and went onto spin mode.

Thought I would check the drain pump for a third time and now it is back to just sitting there full of water? If the wash cycle dial is moved to another setting then the on/off button is pressed the door switch will click twice.

Any ideas from the experts on this one please.

Knackered drain pump (duff internal TOC) by the sound of it. 🙂

Will have another go at checking the pump this afternoon Martin.
Did rotate it to check for jammed bearings yesterday.
That might have given a kick to get it going for a short time.

Spot on Martin the problem did come from the drain pump.
Checked for the error codes and nothing came back so tipped up the washing machine and took off the Askoll type 290793 drain pump.
The impeller was rather stiff and the old grey grunge was packed behind the rotor to the faceplate. All cleaned and the motor run for a few minutes which seemed to loosen the bearings as the customer did not want to buy a new one. Six full cycles and pump still running ok.Customer warned that a new pump could be the order of the day.

What does surprise me is if the motor windings are activated by the mains then why does everything appear dead and nothing else runs on the washing machine. Current would be running through the windings so how does it decide to kill everything until the pump is actually running at full speed?
