My ZWD14270W has started being very noisy on the spin cycle. Strangely it also seems to be LESS prone to vibration since the noise started.

Checked brushes and they have lots of life left.

Tried lifting front of drum and cant feel any play.

Is this likely to be the bearings or is there anything else I should be checking?

If bearings, is it a big job and what should I be expecting quote wise for parts and labour?

    Thanks,

    David

bearings are a big job but the good news it that yours does not seem to have a sealed tub therefore parts should not be too expensive

bad new is the complete machine needs to be dismantled to get the tub out to repair.
site shop should have a suitable bearing kit but I would remove the tub and check the drum spider for excessive corrosion first and check the drum shaft for damage

    Thanks Dave.

WIll pop the top off later and see what I can see.

Any idea of the labour costs on a job like this?

a lot depends on where you live as places like London have to charge more. I would expect over £100 plus parts and since you cant check some components without stripping it you may well have to pay something to strip it to find out

Re: Zanussi Washer Drier Noisy Spin

Thanks for your advice. Engineers came to take it away to put in new bearings but when they checked it they said it was a sealed tub so not economic to repair.
    These were their recommendations:
    Indesit IWDD7143 £399.99
    Neff V7446X1GB £589.99
    Bosch WVG30462GB £729.99
Indesit cheap and cheerful 1 year guarantee
Neff and Bosch more high end plus 2 year guarantee. All prices quoted include delivery installation and removal of old appliance
All machines are in stock for delivery Thursday/Friday.

They have advised that the newer Zanussi’s are not as good as the older ones.

I’ve read your web sites advice re avoiding washer driers but have no other option. You do not seem to make any mention of Neff machines.

Any opinions on the above options, or anything else you’d advise looking at?

    Thanks again fro your help.

Re: Zanussi Washer Drier Noisy Spin

both the Neff and bosch units look ok. if fact both machines use the same parts. checked inner drum on both machines and seems to be same part no. cant check the very latest Neff unit as there are no breakdowns on the site but the model before is identical internally as far as I can see. So I would check what u get for extra money

Indesit is junk these days and includes Hotpoint as they are mechanically identical

I would also look at Miele. They will be dearer but sometimes have offers on warranty which makes them well worth it

Agree, check out Miele, especially as those Neff/Bosch prices you quoted are about the same price of an entry level Miele.

I’ve had lots of brands over the years & they just don’t compare to Miele.

My entry level Miele washes brilliantly (lots of heavily stained kids clothes), clothes smell fresher, it’s silent (other than the noise of water swishing around & spin mode). Not sure how they produced such a motor.
Clothes come out less creased, so less ironing! No need to iron the kids school uniforms anymore! When finished, the clothes are in a lose pile & not stuck to the sides. I guess this is why clothes are less creased? I could go on & on…..
