Zanussi Washer Dryer

zanussi zwd1471s,got error E40 when switched on,replaced door catch .switched machine on with door open got error E40 again because door was open closed door then it tripped main fuse. any help welcome.

did it trip the RCD the one with the test button ? or one of yhe other switches (MCB’s)

Yes the RCD,

assuming the door lock has been connected properly and you have not damaged any wires while fitting it the next components to check are

heaters both the dryer and wash heater
motor

if you have not got a multi meter to test them you could disconnect them and see if it still trips

before you do that, i assume you have a multimeter

unplug motor and set meter to about a 2M ohm scale. put one lead on the metal casing of the motor and the other one on either of the brush connection

if you get really low reading you motor has probably failed

also is the armature noise when you turn it smooth. what I am looking for is a clicking noise as it turns. another sign of a dead motor

sensor reading on motor was 70 ohms brushes were 5 ohms armature runs smoothly

i need a reading to earth as that what blows RCD’s
