Bee Fuddled
ParticipantIs there anywhere I could buy the specialist tool which would enable me to get into the gubbins of my machine?
Something (probably a paper clip) has gone through the drum and is now causing the machine to trip the power
Cheers Bee

Please be Un-Fuddled – a paper clip under the drum will not cause your appliance to trip the electrics. It might rattle around a bit, but would eventually drop down into the filter.
There is something more serious wrong I’m afraid. Does the electric trip at “switch on”, or as soon as it starts, or will it go for a while before doing it?
Regards,

There was a clicky noise (in the spin cycle) for a few weeks then the other day the power was tripped whn the spincycle was running.
I haven’t put the machine on since 😥

Bee,
Open the door and turn the drum by hand – do you get a regular clicking noise, changing with how fast you turn the drum?Penguin45.

The patient is gravely ill…….
You are describing a classic drive motor fault – the armature (revolving part) has blown, so at the least you will need a new motor. Given that it has been shorting the electrics, it is quite possible that the electronic boards may be damaged as well.
Time for some pro help I’m afraid – click the link below to find an engineer in your area.
Sorry and all that,

Thanks for your replies

The drive motor shows at £96.61 + VAT. If the machine has given 7 years trouble free service and is likely to cost about £500 to replace (The Update machine was about £450?), it may well be worth having it investigated. A new motor would come with a one year guarantee as well.

😆 I am one happy bunny, an engineer has just left the premises and I have a working washing machine.
Your diagnosis was correct…a new motor installed.
Total cost £90
