Sory if this is the umpteenth time this question has been asked, I am a newcomer to this excellent forum.

My Zanussi WDJ1285 needs the drum bearing replacing, presumably because the seal has failed judging by the rusty residue on the back of the bearing. Do I need to remove and split the casing to get this bearing out ? I have removed the pulley and knocked the shaft forward but it only moves a little before stopping, I assume because the front of drum hits the inside of the case.

If this is a job for a competent diy-er (me!) can I have suggestions for spares needed and where to get them ? If not, I will be pleased to receive quotations in the NN13 area !

    many thanks.

Alexis, the entire machine must be demolished, tank removed and split, two bearings and oil seal and tank gasket all replaced. The shaft also needs close inspection for damage and may well also need replacement.

You can do it if you have plenty of time, patience and space, but trust me, it is a complete swine of a job.

    Good luck,
    Penguin45.

    Thanks Penguin.
Please make me feel better by telling me how much I could expect to pay someone to do it for me !
(PS Any suggestions what spare parts I would need, and where to get them ?)

It varies a bit Alexis but you would look at paying between £100 and £150 as a guide depending on whether the drum shaft was damaged or not.

Parts can be obtained via the shop@

    Bearing kit is here:

    And the tub seal here:

If you need the drum shaft/spider come back to me 😉

    Dave.

Dave, thanks again for the help.
Have now dismantled the machine and ordered new parts.
    Excellent site, keep it up.
