ParticipantI actually have 2 x WDJ1285s with problems;
The first one was working fine until one day it had just completed a wash, then reloaded for another and it went dead. The on/off switch is ok and the neon is lit but no other signs of life. As it was quite old and been very well used, I thought it was time for a new one..
I came across another WDJ1285 in as new condition and saw it working fine. Upon getting it home and replacing the first machine, this one trips the ELCB as soon as it is plugged in and without it being switched on. The ELCB is built into the consumer unit so I cannot disable it.
I would very much appreciate any advice on getting either of them working, preferably the newer one as it is now installed. Many thanks.

First one will almost certainly be the door interlock. This:

is what you want.The second one will almost certainly be a problem with the suppressor or mains cable, as these are the two components before the on/off switch. You will need to be able to use a test meter safely and correctly to diagnose.
Check the link below if you need pro help, power off if investigating further.

Many thanks for your quick response.
I desperately need to get one of these working, preferably the newer one which is now in situ and which I have previously seen working.
I have checked the mains cable to the connection block in the top of the machine and it is ok. When I disconnect the internal connector from the block and plug in, the ELCB does not trip, so it must be something beyond the internal mains connection block. If the suppressor is the problem, then I should be able to swap it from the old machine, if only I could locate its position. Any advice/help greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

The suppressor is the next step after the terminal block – it should be a cylinder under the centre cross bar with a plug in the end.

Problem solved !
The supressor is indeed a cylinder with a plug in the end. It is located directly behind the mains terminal block and under the metal strut that holds the mains terminal block. The metal strut is held in place with a single crosshead screw into the rear crossmember across the top of the machine. The wires double back underneath the terminal block and it is so cramped it is difficult to see where they go, but once you undo the screw and lift the metal strut, there is the suppressor tucked underneath.
I removed this and replaced it with the one from the old machine and now its working fine. A 5 minute job if you know where to look.
Many thanks for your valued assistance and a Merry Christmas to you!
Regards.
