ParticipantMy Zanussi Washer dryer was on a cycle spin and there was a loud bang that tripped the MCB. There was also a burning smell and now the machine switches on, but the drum will not spin. I am thinking its the motor and or capacitor. Washing Machine engineer said that it was beyond repair and the parts were not available. Looking for a second opinion as the machine is nearly 25 years old and has served its time well.

Moderatordid the engineer tell you what parts have gone ?
would need the pnc number to check part availability
there is also a complete machine on ebay in Thatcham which has a slow fill problem which will be a valve but its probably miles away

ParticipantHi Dave
NO part number, Engineer seemed to think it was a lost cause and yes I checked Ebay and there is a machine there, however, its about 200 miles away from me.
Does it sound like it could be the capacitor, where about is it in the machine, so I can open it and get the capacitor out to replace it.September 21, 2019 at 9:29 pm #463288electrofix

ParticipantHi Dave
It tripped the RCD, there was a loud pop and a burning smell from the washer. Now it powers up and when you spin the programming dial it sounds as though its working but the drum does not spin.

Moderatordoes sound like a motor problem. the worry is how bad it has gone. has it just blown the motor or has it blown some of the electronics as well
if you let me have the pnc number which should be 9 number followed by 2 more
I will see if the motor is still available and cost it

Moderatornew motor
https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/1325287017-washing-machine-motornot really a viable option
used motor
looks highly likely its the same motor
there is a chance something else has blown but to find out you would have to strip the machine and look at the motor control board
