    Hi
My Zanussi WJS1265W washer dryer has stopped working properly. 🙁

I’ve managed to get the fault code from looking at some tips from this site – thank you.
The code is E52 which relates to the issues I’m having, the machine switches on, lets me select a programme, the timer runs down BUT the drum does not spin around.
I haven’t got to the motor yet, but thought I would look at the PCB first as it is very accessable.

From the photo below you might be able to see the black dust/burnt bits on it

I think it might be the copper coil thingy (for want of a better description) – I’m guessing it means a new PCB – any idea how much they are?
Should I also check anything else?

    Thanks again.

    Re: Zanussi WJS 1265W Question

Just looks like carbon dust and not blown. I would suggest you look at the motor brushes befor you purchase a PCB as they are prob worn out and that would cause the E52 error. The fault says no tacho signal to the PCB just no motor action in other words. But while you have the PCB off have a look at the solder for cracking or burnt known as a dry joint.

    Hope this has helped.

    Re: Zanussi WJS 1265W Question

I managed to turn the washing machine on its side to have a look at the motor. I can’t physically see anything wrong with it. I pulled the connections out and pushed them back in –

I can’t tell if the brushes are worn, I tried removing the bolts to have a look at them but they are tiny and you can’t get a socket or spanner round them. The brushes look like they are touching the magnets on the spindle. I turned the washing machine back on and the drum spins slowly and only for a few rotations every 30 seconds or so and I can hear a crackling sound from near the general area of the motor when the drum does spin.

It’s a 5.5mm head on the screws that hold the carbons in place. The sound you can hear is an arcing from the worn carbons where they touch the motor armature.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for the tips.

I was going to get the brushes sorted out and my wife went online and ordered a new machine :rolls:

I suppose I could fix it and sell it or get something from the scrap metal merchant??

Women eh, what are they like? Give ’em access to the Internet and your credit card number and all your hard work has come to nothing.

A duff Zanussi is worth less than the effort it takes to cart it outside for the council to dispose of it. Fix it first and someone will buy it from you off eBay. Though I would start the bidding at 99p (buyer collects) and anything over a fiver is worth trousering.! 😈
