    I replace the bottom element in the appliance today.

    When I removed the old element, because it was in pieces, a thin aluminium sheet came out with it, crumpled and torn and couldn’t be refitted. The sheet is like a thick tin foil.

    Can anyone tell me the purpose of the foil, I have replaced the lower element in other ovens and they haven’t had this foil?

    iv had this before, i think it must be to deflect the heat upwards away from the base
