ParticipantA few days ago I was cooking something under the grill and suddenly the whole oven went off. After some investigation I discovered that the fuse in the plug had blown. Once the fuse had been changed all in the oven seems to be working except the inner grill ring.
Not being familiar with how these things work, is the whole inner grill likely to need replacing, or might it just need some repairing, or an internal fuse replacing? Is it something I might be able to repair myself, or is it better to get a professional in?
Thanks and regards,

Hi Dave,
It’s probably just the element that’s popped as it’s two separate elements if you like joined together.
It should be this grill element that’s in that model but now obsolete.

Thanks for your quick response. Unfortunately your reply leads me on to more questions 😉
1. Is elements popping a fairly usual occurrence?
2. Do both elements need replacing at the same time, even if the outer one works fine?
3. Is fitting a new element something that is safe for me to do? If so, how does one go about it?Thanks so much,

Hi Dave,
1. Pretty much yes.
2. As they are separate elements, as I said, yes.
3. Should be two screws that release the element although some you have to open up the back panel of the oven to replace, just depends how it’s been done.

Thanks for your help so far.
I did have to take the whole oven unit out to release it from the back.
I managed to get hold of a second hand grill element on ebay that said it was the model that you quoted. Having fitted it, both elements do work, although it now appears that the oven fan doesn’t any more, whereas I think it did when the old element was in it.
One difference that I’ve noticed between the old element and the new element is that on the old element two of the prongs were connected together whereas on the new one all four prongs are completely separate. Is the connecting together of the two prongs what was allowing the fan to work?
Thanks and regards,

Possibly, I really don’t know.
Goodness knows what element you have now is. Support is impossible when stuff like that off Ebay is fitted as we haven’t a clue what it is or how it is supposed to be installed of, in the case of secondhand, if it even works correctly.
