The grill element occasionally heats by a small amount when it is not being used .Is this a faulty switch ? .Switch operates normally i.e turn on fan operates element heats up .If it is the switch how hard a job is it to change ?. Thanks in advance for any advice.

From what info you give does suggest the switch is at fault. They are not difficult to replace.
