    Hi

Our Zanussi ZCM 700X dual fuel cooker is about 7 years old now. I’ve been very happy with it, but just recently the oven has been taking a long time to heat up. It was a right pain over Christmas!

The grill element went a couple of years ago and we’ve been managing without it – is it possible that the oven element is now on the way out too? Do elements ‘get doddery’ before they die?

And I’d like to ask you experts – do you think the cooker is worth giving a new lease of life by overhauling it?

    Cheers

Decent enough machine, so many get thrown away early these days.

There are three elements in your oven:
    3570104-01/2 – fan oven element – about £23.
    3570337-01/8 – grill element – about £54.
    3570338-04/0 – base element – about £13.

I would suggest doing the door seal at the same time, as it can be a major source of heat loss.

    3565144-01/5 – door seal – about £9.

All plus VAT and a bit of P+P. Contact spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for confirmed prices and ordering.

    Hi there

    Thanks for this!

We have bought an oven thermometer and it seems that the thermostat is not operating properly – even when the oven is on its highest setting it switches it off at around 180 C – which means it never reaches roast spud temperature.

So I think we can add the cost of a new thermostat to the list above.

Thankfully, the top and bottom elements seem to be working fine.

Here’s a question – when the oven is on fan setting, does it use just the fan element or a combination of all three? The reason I’m asking is because I have never actually used the oven as a conventional oven, but only on the fan setting. I always thought the only difference was whether the fan was on or off.

So I was quite surprised when we switched it over to the conventional setting and the oven started giving off an unfamiliar ‘unused element’ kind of smell.

Cheers for all your help on this.

Based on what you have said, leave the elements alone and go for the thermostat (50027180-00/4, approx £20) and the door seal.

As far as I can tell, the conventgional oven mode switches on the base element and the outer part of the grill element, giving static heat from above and below.
