ParticipantHi there, great site by the way just stumbled across it by luck!
I am looking for a bit of advice if anyone can help?
I bought the above oven second hand a couple of months ago – it was used as a second oven so was in as new condition. I have used it every night since I got it and have had no problems until just recently!
I had a baked potato in the oven for about an hour and was just taking it out but when I shut the door there was a big flash from where the bulb is located then a couple of flashes from the rear of the oven. I isolated the mains then removed the rear cover of oven and found that one of the 2 wires connected to the rear of the bulb holder had actually arced off and had hit the cover a couple of times leaving scorch marks. I removed the bulb holder and the bulb which are quite badly damaged and all black. I cut off the remaining wire connected to bulb and fitted a piece of chocblock to these 2 wires then taped this up out the way-so effectively the bulb circuit is open at present. After fitting cover back on and reinstating mains I tried to turn control knob to switch on oven – the mains light flickers now and nothing happens. If I try and turn tenperature dial I get the same(thermostat clicks as normal)-just a flicker. Ignition button works as does digital clock/timer and I can put in time too.(required for oven functioning)
Could the wire that was shorting off the rear case have damaged control switch or timer circuitry. I have had oven in pieces and cannot see any obvious damage to control switch or timer circuit.
The only thing that I can recall about that night was that I shut the oven door slighty harder than normal which may have caused filament in bulb to short but not sure?
I have checked both elememt and fan too and they seem ok.
Sorry about the huge message but I am trying to be as descriptive as possible. Not sure if anyone has had a similar problem before or is it even worth attempting repair? Thanks
G
