Hello and good day to you all.

I prey someone can advise how I might fix our condensing tumble dryer.

It’s a Zanussi ZDC67550W PNC (ELC) 916096169 (00); it turns on at the mains but when I turn the dial to a cycle and press start there is a small audible click coming from behind the control panel and another about 4 secs later but the drum doesn’t start turning. I’ve taken all the panels off but dont know what to look for. I’ve changed thermostats on our fridge and freezer and recently the motor in the Dyson so I’m confident in changing parts if needed and using a multimeter.

The belt is intact and we’ve regularly cleaned the condenser, door filter etc.

I really need to find out what’s wrong as with 5 in our family, drying the clothes outside in the great British weather isn’t a lot of fun!

With a fault like that the relms of a good guess could end up being more than you need to spend 😕 Could be a PCB fault or as little as a faulty door switch. Unlikely the motor and they are no brushes on these and if the capacitor had gone it would just buzz and turn with a helping push.

Check out the repairs@ section is best bet plus it will be fixed sooner rather than later for the five of you 😀

Top of the morning to you nige,

Thanks so much for offering some help; just reading your reply, the wife said she noticed the dryer was making a sound as if the drum was struggling to turn (it eventually would) and then when the drum stopped to turn the other way it made the same struggling noise (like the motor under a lot of load) and would stop rotating completely. As of the other day, the control panel lights up as normal but pressing start, the drum wont start turning (no struggling noise either).

Would it be prudent to buy some capacitors to eliminate them as the fault possibly?

If so could you point me in the right place to buy some?

    Gratefully, Chris.

Sounds like capacitor fault to start with but may have done the motor in if it’s not making any noise at all now. Capacitors are cheap enough to though. Go onto the shop@ link in the navigation box they’ll get you sorted with one.

From the picture of the fan, it looks as if the filter hasn’t been cleaned as per instructions, check other fan for build up of fluff or blockage.
Does drum turn easy by hand or not, drum rests on 2 wheels which could be seized.
The motor should have a spring pulling it down, keeping tension on belt. If you take off the spring, thus untensioning it, will it start?
Check for movement in motor bearings, bearing failure is a possibillity too.

Hi, thanks for the suggestions so far. I’ve fitted new capacitors 2uf and 6uf.

It starts up and the heater element glows but then the element goes out and the drum seems to be struggling.

It doesn’t appear to do a reverse cycle either.

If I then turn the selector dial to another setting, the pause/start button flashes red with a warning beep.

Excuse my carelessness in getting a shock from the board 😯

Here’s a video of what’s going on and the mrs is not happy with me 😥
