    Hi,

I have a 2 year old (low use) Zanussi ZDC47100w Condenser dryer (product number 916094517/09).

The tumble dryer lives in an annex next to the house which, although dry, can sometimes feel a little damp. The dryer has been working fine in there for 4 months until the other day when I returned to the dryer to find the clothes semi-dry and the start/pause button flashing red.

I have ensured that all filters are cleaned out, the vent around the back is clear, the bottle is empty and the condenser is clear and clean.

    The problem happens as follows:

I turn the machine on and select a program or time amount. If I press the start button straight away then I will get a tumble or two before it cuts out and beeps with the start/pause button flashing red. If I don’t start the machine straight away after turning it on then, after the same amount of time, the beep happens and the start/pause button will flash red. All of the green LED lights are normal.

Of note is that after leaving the dryer for a day or so, I randomly went back to it and turned it on. I selected a timed dry and it worked for approximately 30/40 minutes before returning to its previous faulty state. I have tried using it around 20/30 times since without any degree of success or change.

I have found what I believe to be the error code but can’t be sure. I found, online, two methods for determining the fault code.

The first told me to hold down the start/pause button with one of the other two buttons and turn the dial one click clockwise. Then, once the dryer starts moving through the green leds, turn the dial 10 more clicks (75′ mark) and count the red/green flashes on the start/pause button. On doing this I found that the error code made no sense and randomly flashed up red, green and orange. I have found suggestion that this indicates a faulty PCB.

The second method I tried told me to turn the dial to any setting other than the first click clockwise. I should then press and hold the start/pause button and any other button. On doing this the machine beeped and then ran through a sequence of 7 red flashes, followed by 1 red flash (I believe an E71 error code?) before returning to the now normal position of the start/pause button flashing red.

I’m concerned that the error code might be false and additionally that I’m not sure exactly what it means I should do. The E71 error code is apparently to do with the NTC? Is this true and how can I go about replacing/testing it? I have found the temperature probe but can’t find any other temperature sensors. I have also been scouring the web to find replacement sensors for this model and a schematic that can help me. There doesn’t seem to be a lot out there!

If anyone can offer any advice I’d be very appreciative. I feel like I’m close to solving the issue but need an expert to point me in the right direction.

    Thanks in advance.

sequence of 7 red flashes, followed by 1 red flash (I believe an E71 error code?)

If you mean 1green flash then yes is is fc71 NTC flt . It should read about 6 K at 20 deg
It’s mounted in the air duct at bottom after r/h side is removed.

Thanks Jim, and yes I did mean 1 green flash.

I’ll remove the temperature probe and test it. Will let you know how I get on. Just to confirm … does it sit in a rubber grommit/gasket and is it about an inch long going in to the duct?

    Thanks for your advice.

    Hi Jim,

I’ve finally managed to get hold of a multimeter and have conducted a test. At room temperature (approx 20C) the reading was around 5.5k as you suggest it should be. I then dipped the probe in to iced water (5C) for 1 minute and re-tested. The reading was around the same. Finally, I dipped the probe in to 90C water for 1 min and took a further reading. The result was slightly more varied but settled between 4.5 and 5k.

What would you expect to see with a faulty NTC probe? My assumption is that because the resistance barely changed that there is a fault. I’m not sure what it should rise or fall to, perhaps a few k either way?

Unfortunately I don’t have a continuity tester so don’t have a result for that.

My plan dependent on your advice, will be to source a replacement probe. I’m struggling to find one at the moment so this may be harder than it sounds. Do you know of anywhere that might stock them?

    Best wishes,

    Sam.

    Great, thanks Jim.

I’ll get one on order and fingers crossed it’ll be that and not the pcb!

    Cheers,

    Jim,

Just to let you know that I have sourced a replacement NTC probe and it seems to have done the trick; all appears to working as before.

Many thanks for your help and advice.

Re: Zanussi ZDC47100w Condenser Dryer cuts out!

Hi. I found this forum topic and was delighted as the original fault is almost the same as the one I am experiencing, (press the start button, machine starts then beeps and stops – does this on occasion two to three times before getting going). I tried the two tests.

The first, holding the start button and one other then turning the dial – and then turning it on 10 clicks left us with the machine neatly cycling through all the lights, one at a time.

The second, moving the dial to a start point other than setting one, then holding start and any other button gave a clear result – 8 red followed by three green.

Any assistance in pointing me towards the next best move really appreciated.

    Steve
