zanussi ZENB9750SI defrost problem help please

i have the above freezer and the fridge keeps warming up.
upon investigation the evaporator in the freezer is completly frozen.
when i defrost it all is well for a week or so then the same happens again.

i have done a bit of research and the common problem would seem to be the auto defrost system and a problem with the heater or the timer

problem is i have tested the heater and it works ok (applied ac and tested continuity) both with and without the overheat protectors in line and it heats up ok.

there does not seem to be a seperate timer as i think it is controlled by the main pc board.

any suggestions as im running out of ideas. and dont like the idea of changing the pc board at £100 in case is something else.

Defrost function is entirely controlled by the power board down by the compressor. Sensor failures and other faults are indicated by lights flashing on the display board at the top. If you have none, the power board is your prime suspect.

the only time a light flashes is when the alarm goes off telling me it is too warm in the fridge.

there is anther box of wires screwed onto the side by the compressor but ive never been in there!

but the main computer board is in the fridge!

will have another look after work today.

how can i tell if the main power board is the problem or the thermostat sensors in the freezer?
i have had the board out and it looks ok no broken lines etc.

also i suspect the main power board would be a rather expensive part to replace!!!
