Five year old Zanussi fridge/freezer (single compressor). It has been struggling to keep the proper temperature – especially on the fridge section (8-10 degrees at best).
First noticed this a couple of weeks ago, since when it has been defrosted and left switched off while we were on holiday last week. Powered up again on Sunday.
As it is a built in unit I have pulled it out, cleaned the condensor (wasn’t that dusty anyway, even after 5 years), checked doors are shutting properly. Freezer is at about -20 degrees with unit still out on the kitchen floor.
Zanussi Service Force suggested setting dial to No.2 to give it a chance – that just made the temperature go up to 10-12 degrees! Kitchen is 25 degrees – well within 32 degree max temp in spec.
I don’t want to call an engineer out to be told it’s just the weather (although it hasn’t struggled like this in previous summers) so is there something else I could check or likely faults that would cause this (again, if it’s something major, I would rather avoid the call out fee if it is going to be a 200quid repair – as I would probably just cut my losses and replace the appliance).
I have now had a fan directed at the back for about half an hour, with the dial on No.4, freezer has dropped to -26 degrees, but fridge is still 8-10 degrees
    Any suggestions/advice gratefully accepted
    Thanks
