Hi there, I have a problem with my 2 year old Zanussi Frost Free intergrated Fridge Freezer. Basically the top refridgerator compartment is freezing all my fresh food. The bottom freezer compartment seems to be working fine.

I have completely defrosted the whole fridge freezer and it hasent solved the problem. I can hear normal sounds from it and the fan in the freezer compartment works fine.

What happens is a layer of frost builds up on the back wall of the refridgeration compartment and then it slowly freezes everything in there. I remember that this layer of frost used to melt periodically and drain off down the small drain hole but this no longer happens.

There is a fan in the bottom freezer compartment but I cant see any duct or flap to carry cold air up. It just looks like an air circulation fan to me and the top refridgeration compartment is completely sealed apart from a small drainage whole. Also I can see the frosted patten of an element shape on the back wall of the fridge part when it freezes up as though there is some kind of element behind there.

I have had the whole fridge out to look at the back and the large radiator at the back is free from dust and it gets warm and the compresser at the bottom seems to be working fine, although it is running constantly. The temperature control knob works although turning it right down to minimum doesn’t stop the fridge from freezing. There is also a fast freeze button which lights up when pressed

I just need someone who has knowledge of this model to tell me exactly how the frost free system on this fridge freezer works and what parts are involved so I can get a better understanding of what might be wrong.
    Any ideas?

    Its a Zanussi ZI 921/8FFA
    The product number is 925 771 713 02

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Mark,

I’m not familiar with that fridge freezer but, looking at the spares info on it I would think it’s liable to be a thermistor or PCB failure. There is a probes assembly that isn’t that expensive by the looks of it which, if you ask Dave for on spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk he can give you a price and availability on, part number is 242 50 22-03/1.

The electronic thermostat is 242 50 28-13/7 and looks to be under £50 so it’s worth repairing.

Hi Kwatt, thanks for the reply. I’ll send off an e-mail now for a quote on the probes assembly. Is there a page on here were I can view these parts?

Ok thats fine, I have recieved an e-mail with those qoutes for the parts, now I have to decide if its a job I can handle or one I’ll have to get an engineer to do.

It would be really helpfull if I could find a picture of these parts so I know what i’m looking for and decide if I could do it myself.

I’ve done lots of PC builds in my spare time so I supose I might be able to install the PCB 😕

Thanks for the help on this kwatt.

    Mark.
