Zanussi ZKG5540XN – Heat blowing from grill

I’ve just bought a Zanussi ZKG5540XN gas double oven and when I’m using the grill, heat blows out of the top of the grill with such force and it’s very hot (bit like having an electric fire on 😕 ) that it’s impossible to stand infront of the cooker and use the hob whilst the grill is on as your clothes get very hot and the heat makes you feel sick. If you put your hand 6 inches infront of the top of the grill, you can feel your hand burning

I’ve phoned up customer care and explained the problem and they checked with an engineer and he said thats quite normal, if I still want someone to come out and have a look and there’s no fault, I’d be charged £58 which is why they asked the engineer first.

Does anyone know whether this is normal?

Just a thought, as this is a new purchase have you checked the user instructions for the grill operation to see if the oven door needs to be closed while grill is in use. Also known as “closed door grilling.”

Thanks for your reply, the user instructions say:

The grill door must be left open when grilling.

The grill door is fitted with a shut off valve. This will cut off the gas when the door is closed. The gas will flow again when the door is open. Always ensure that the grill control is in the off position before closing the door.

Thanks, I’ve just phoned that number and explained the problem and he said that it’s normal for the grill to blow out heat 😕 but if I feel that it’s too hot then I should get an engineer out to check it out, but again i’ll be charged if it’s not faulty.

So I guess the only way to solve this is to get an engineer out and hope that he burns himself. 😈 😆

TBH my built in Hotpoint oven has the grill at eye level and that blows right into your face if you get close enough to look at what you are cooking.
