ParticipantThis morning my Zanussi ZNB4051 (4 years old) failed. Or at least it seems so.
The symptoms are:
1. Fridge section is warm while freezer section is cold (-18 degrees).
2. On control panel “-” is displayed for fridge section; “-18” for freezer.
3. The fan seem to run OK (at least it makes familiar noises).
4. There is no gurgling sound which this fridge tend to produce when it is cooling things. After searching the forum it seem that the issue is quite common with this (uncommon) model:

viewtopic.php?f=35&t=65945&p=324378Am wondering whether there is a solution for the issue? Please help – having both tumble dryer and fridge/freezer failing in same months will certainly please my banker but I’d rather keep him disappointed.

Do you have the PNC number off the rating plate?
At a guess though I’d be thinking along the lines of a air flow problem of some sort.

Prod. No: 925034408-00
Serial: 65020058
Version: 4I turned it off for now (to defrost it).

It looks as if it draws air from the freezer into the fridge via an air channel at the back of the fridge. This means there will be a fan motor to draw the cold air up and there also looks to be a diffusor that will act like a baffle, opening when cool air is required.
Defrosting first is a good plan as it could be that channel is blocked with ice.
The danger being of course that there is a fault that allows it to freeze back up again or, if there is a component, like the baffle, faulty then defrosting won’t help.

So the plan is like this then:
1. Defrost
2. Run it and see if the problem still exists.
3. If it does, then check the baffle (do you know where it is located?)
4. If baffle is open then check the fan (a continuity test will do, right?)
5. If fine is OK then call for an engineer
6. If no engineers around or if repair is not economically viable, use John Lewis’ trade-in offer and get Siemens fridge/freezer. 🙂October 5, 2011 at 8:53 am #360490kwatt

Baffle is behind the fridge air tower from what I can see.
The baffle will (should) have a small motor or solenoid on it. What position it is normally in I don’t know.
Fan motor you’d probably hear running.
If unsure then yes, best to get an engineer.
If all else fails, stuff the Siemens, buy a Liebherr. 😉

Great stuff, many thanks for it.
It’ll probably take me a week to implement the plan I guess.
BTW, why not Siemens? I thought that BSH products are of good quality, better than most of the other brands?

They are what is now known as “premium mass market”, in other words, better than the cheap stuff but not as “premium” as most people think.
The Liebherr’s are just better. 😉
