ParticipantThis is a very basic undercounter fridge with ice box. Just stopped working. When powered on the motor runs for a couple of seconds and stops. Thermostat appears to be okay, I think the module on the side of the compressor is tripping out as it appears to drop the voltage feed rather than the thermostat. This appears to be what is referred to as a start/overload relay and genuine Zanussi part appears obsolete. I have had this off and it appears rather basic, some kind of disc (possibly ceramic) under a clip on cover, a round black part that might be a relay, rest looks much like a lot of metal connections in the plastic housing. I’ve noticed the black part gets quite hot while it is sat powered on but not running.
Is my failure likely to be this module or a genuine overload indicating the compressor pump is faulty?
Any advice on how to test the module and be sure of what the fault is (or isn’t) would be welcome.
PNC is 933012110-00
I think the start/overload device part number is 2003618689 gleaned from here https://shop.zanussi.co.uk/search?q=:relevance:pnc:93301211000 and the picture matches.
It has CAFG and A03F7 K00 CA markings on it.
Thanks Phil

An update. I found details for the compressor and start run device.
I think the overload device (BDG 3/4inch AF25FY6) is tripping after 5-10 seconds.
I’ve examined the PTC device and it doesn’t seem to be broken in any way – I have read these can have chips off them.
If I’ve got the right compressor datasheet the main winding should be 26ohm and the start winding 34.4ohm. The resistances for the three combinations of terminals are 27ohm, 24ohm and 17ohm. The 27ohm is the one across the PTC and I assume should be measuring across both motor coils and so ought to be the total of the other two which it is not. Hence I presume some short between the windings.
So is it fair to assume the overload and PTC are fine and it looks like there is something wrong with the motor windings and hence fridge is scrap ie not economically repairable?

there is only 2 things this can be.
1 the starter which is mounted on the compressor
2 the compressor
1 is fixable 2 unit is scrap
problem is you would have to buy a starter and fit it to find out which is the fault. also bear in mind the unit is 10 years old
