    Is there a cheap universal pump I could use to replace this ?
    I see ones that look similar but not sure of any compatibility issues (i.e. amp connection ? type a ? )

    If I wanted to replace it with a bayonet fit, would this be impossible with my current drain housing ? (i.e. would I need to buy the whole section ?)

    Why ??
    you would have to buy a complete filter & pump unit for a machine with a bayonet type pump, then hope it fits yours.
