I put this machine into test mode and it came up with this.
It also flashed 13 red then 4 green.
Can someone tell me how to read this code please.

Thanks for the help guys. How do I read this code though. Is it fault 4 or 13 or Ed4 ??

I had one a while ago and if I remember right the service manual (which, when I’m home, I can send you if you PM me your e-mail address) said it’s the drier board or washer board depending on a couple of tests.
I rang a mate of mine, an engineer in zanussi, and he said it’s usually one of the two.The machine I looked at was 4 and a half years old so I rang zanussi for the customer and they sent out some one to repair it for call out fee only.
However, Zanussi Dublin told me that if the machine was bought in Currys or someother outlet that doesn’t sell machines out of the Irish warehouse that it’s not covered by the Major parts warranty, so there!
I gave her the s/n and this was ‘one of theirs’ so it wasn’t a problem.All that being said, I never rang the customer back to see how she got on, must do that today…

What were the symptoms to prompt you to put it into diagnostics mode anyway? Ed4 error can be a very misleading error and can lead to ‘barking up the wrong tree’ anyway. I’m going with Cab’s diagnosis as being more likely. 😉

Customer said the machine was getting very hot and cutting out.I thought the rinse valve might not have been working but it was ok.

A dodgy dryer valve would usually throw up an E20 error anyway. Have you taken off the dryer fan and cleaned all the fluff from it and the condenser?

OK, in that case I refer you back to my earlier post and Cab’s and conclude the dryer element is the probable cause (as unlikely as that may sound) Get your megger on the case! 😉

There is a new housing development on my patch which has the Elux equiv. fitted in every house. I have come across this fault code about 20 times. Every time the dryer heater has been the cause. The symptoms sometimes vary slightly. I now carry this heater in the van as I fit one every couple of weeks. I have always found the machine runs perfectly with the heater completely disconnected. Be warned, this week I fitted a new dryer heater and the machine played up again a day later on a wash after the customer had used the dryer. I checked the insulation – down to 7.5meg from 35 the day before and wasted half an hour checking everything else. Now why didn’t just disconnect the new heater straight way – I should know by now not to trust new parts to always be perfect. In the future my procedure will be lid off and unplug the dryer heater then test!
