ParticipantHi all, I called an engineer out a couple of weeks ago because when I switched on a program, the drum turned about three times then I got the finished noise (two bangs) and it stopped. Of course when he came it worked perfectly well, costing me a callout fee. Since then it’s been very temperamental. I did manage a quick wash this morning but when it stopped I didn’t get the beeps, it just went back to 30mins on the display. I couldn’t get it to fast spin afterwards.
At the moment the program times come up, the start/pause flashes but non of the programs will start at all…I’m not getting the ‘knock’ that I use to get to start it…there’s no error messages.
I know it’s had it but any ideas what the problem is and if it’s worth repairing …. it’s 6 years old but only gets used about once a fortnight.
Thanks FayJune 6, 2014 at 3:20 pm #414929Martin

Did the engineer check the pump? Did he check the heating elements? All of which can cause these common error problems.

Thankyou for replying. He didn’t check anything Martin, he was in the house about 5 mins. I was so shocked that the program started, I thought I must be going senile. Can the pump work intermittently before it finally goes because I managed a wash this morning? I’ll try it again in the morning I might just be lucky, I’ll try it on a hotter wash to see if the heater works.

Most likely the dryer element due to lack of use. an easy fix

We’re talking a faulty DRYER heater here that will affect the machine from the start even if you haven’t set a dryer cycle. At least checking the machine with an insulation tester is a fundamental procedure for an engineers visit. It can also be performed within the 5 mins the guy was in your house anyway and would have immediately shown a fault with your machine.June 7, 2014 at 9:21 pm #414933Bramley

Thanks CC1 and Martin for you help. That makes sense as the dryer has only been used about a dozen times and hasn’t been used at all in the last five years. Tried again today but it started then stopped within a couple of seconds. Thanks again both for the information I’ll get the engineer back out now that it has completely conked …. I suppose it’s like everything else …. use it or lose it!!…. have to do more washing in the future.
