ParticipantZanussi ZWF 1430 – 7 years old.
Was getting noisy last week. We’ve been away for a week and now it fills up and goes through a cycle (the minutes remaining counter goes down) but the drum doesn’t turn.
By hand with the machine turned off I can turn the drum approximately 1/8th of a full circle in both directions.
Pressing start and reset sometimes gives error E11.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

E11 should be a fill problem.
The drum not turning could be something stuck in the drum, motor, bearings… you’ll have to open it up and have a look see.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I found with a search that E11 should be a fill problem, however it is filling and emptying just fine.
I’ll look for anything obvious. What’s the best way in?

Not sure but most of them are split cabinet, so lid off and the cabinet splits in two.

Lid off, and the first thing I see is the belt which has fallen off! Is there a way to get it back on without splitting the machine in half?

Not without huge difficulty, no.

The belts don’t ‘fall off’ without good reason.
If the drum will not spin, smoothly and quietly with the belt off then you have big problems.
Either the drum bearings have failed or there is something jammed between the inner and outer drum.Major strip down and possible expense involved. 😥

Okay thanks guys. With my limited abilities are we basically saying scrap it?
UPDATE – the drum now turns freely by hand so likely the belt was preventing it before?

If it spins freely and more importantly quietly then it could just be a faulty belt. Refitting the old one is a waste of time. Rear half of cabinet has to be removed to fit new belt.
If there is any noise then it’s likely the bearings have failed, there should be virtually no noise when spinning the drum if the bearings are sound.

Rear half of cabinet off, old belt back on (I know you said it was pointless iadom but it’s all I have).
It filled, then errored. It was noisy, but the belt is still attached.
By hand the drum still moves freely. You can hear a noise, but it’s not very loud and it doesn’t sound like anything is too amiss.
Thanks everyone.
