We have a Zanussi ZWF1432S that is under guarantee.

A wash cycle completed and we noticed the clothes were excessively wet after spinning, but were not able to start any new cycles.

When a new cycle was started it would take in water for several seconds, and then stop. After 5 minutes it would take water in for another second or two, and then stop. After this it would reset itself. The same process happened when the cycle was advanced (by me) to drain. It would drain very slowly and only in short bursts, and then reset.

An engineer came out and diagnosed fault code 52 – saying we need a new motor and PCB. We are not being asked to pay for this but I wonder if the suggested remedy is appropriate. The engineer left his job sheet which had the suggested replacement part of a ‘delaying device.port’ [part no 1249675131].

Does it sound reasonable that a new motor and PCB is needed?

Will our machine be prone to further errors if these parts are replaced?

Many thanks for any reply to give us peace of mind and confidence in the engineer would be very much appreciated! Thanks.

That code means that the computer board is not receiving a return signal from the motor when it tries to operate it. This can be a motor fault, a computer fault or a wiring fault. By ordering up both components, your repairer is covering his options – you are unlikely to end up with both fitted.

The delaying device is the door interlock – obviously not required, as your machine does programme and start.

Overall, Zanussi make decent mid-range product. In my personal experience, the electronics seem to be rather fragile.
