ParticipantHi
New member here looking for help.
As above Zanussi ZWF-1621 W
It fills, then runs for a very short time (seconds) before starting to make metal catching rubbing sort of noise and then it stops.
I’ve taken the top off so far. (Power off obviously)
Belt OK.
Drum and motor turns over by hand with no nasty noises.
Looks like there might be a slight water leak somewhere at the rear left looking from the front. Can’t identify where that’s from at present, I’ve got to get into the back.Any thoughts please?

ParticipantDone that. Same result. Very few seconds of spin before it cuts out. Starts to run up, but then makes the same noise but faster. Not a loud noise but sounds sort of rubbing “tac-tac-tac-tac”

Moderatorwell can only be drum or motor
if it was the pump it would not make a noise till the end of the wash

ParticipantI was wondering if it was something with the motor. Don’t think it’s the drum, although I can feel a slight bit of rumble there somewhere when I turn it over. Not enough to think the bearings are shot though.
Any thoughts on what could make the drive cut out suddenly like that?
Could it be doing something weird like fwd / rev cycling and then cutting out?
Is there any overload in there?I used to be an industrial sparks many years ago, but TBH, I know nothing about washing machines apart from a vague idea of what goes on.
Very vague! 🙂If it looks like being one of those “either / or” jobs on a machine coming up to 13 years old, and is going to cost for parts, then it’s probably time for a new ‘un.
I’ve been doing other stuff today, so I’ll pull the back off tomorrow and make sure there’s nothing obviously broken or falling offNovember 1, 2020 at 7:56 pm #472884electrofix
Moderatortry taking the belt off and see how things run then

ParticipantWill do.
Thanks.November 2, 2020 at 4:02 pm #472886AMplidyne
ParticipantRemoved the belt. Exactly the same thing happened. Motor ran for a few seconds, then stopped.
No noise this time, so you wonder about bearings as well!
As there’s a slight leak somewhere anyway, and a faulty motor and / or control gear, which is going to cost to test by replacement, and the machine is 13 years old, a new machine has been ordered. Not a bad innings for this one I wonder how long the new one will last!
Thanks again for the help. -
