Zanussi ZWF12280W error code 54

I’ve had this error code a few times now and each time it’s cleared after running the diagnostics check to get the error code: I run the check, get the code, switch the machine off go back in get the “ELE” message switch it back off then on again and it runs normally.
Any idea what is causing this in the first place? Am I simply overloading the machine or is there something else going on? I can live with the problem because it’s simple to resolve – at least it has been so far – but am I living on borrowed time? Is it time to replace or is there a permanent repair available?

one of the faults listed as causing this is current leakage on the motor

I would remove, check and clean carbon brushes on the motor

carbon dust can build up on the motor and could cause this
