    Have a Zunussi ZWF1421W purchased September 06 (27months old).
Water enters and when drum goes to start it screetched (metal to metal screech).
Drained it, empty the wash, notice the drum is stuck fast. (would normally rotate when off would it not).

Does this sound fatal or reasonable repair costs?

    Thanks.

    Re: Zanussi ZWF1421W drum stuck

Remove the plug, then the belt. This will allow you to check that the drum has actually seized. This model may have a tub assembly which is welded closed, so access for removing any foreign body trapped within is exceedingly limited.

If the drum has jammed due to bearing failure, it’s scrap and a complete replacement tub assembly will be required.

    THIS makes interesting reading.

yes – that was an interesting read

finally got machne out from under the bench, of course unplugged, but more interesting found a belt underneath it!!!!

printing on it is 132353100 hutchinson poly v made in EU 5PJE 1200

is this the belt that was being suggested to be removed – if so the mahine did it itself 😕

so drum is stuck fast and this belt was lying on ground.
    any thoughts?

    Thanks.

yep, the drum siezed and the motors carried on. and burned through the belt

its all downhill from here on in…..

the belt is still in one piece – no sign of ‘burned through’

then it was thrown off when drum seized, still not looking good, does the inner drum look like its ‘dropped’ like its not sitting even to the seal?

So……. Are you going to try and break it free? If you can prise the drum into movement, it may be worth pulling out the heater and going fishing – torch and wire coat-hanger are essential equipment.

    Power off first, of course.

    Re: Zanussi ZWF1421W drum stuck

a bit of gentle persuassion and the drum no longer stuck fast.

as I move it round, there is one point in the rotation it gets stiffer and a little extra effort to rotate, then it is back to less effort.

with the sealed plastic tub – little opportunity to see what is the cause of that – a suggestion of pulling out heater will help fish? where am I looking to remove this?

    Thanks.

    Re: Zanussi ZWF1421W drum stuck

been fishing – caught a partial shredded black sock :rolls:

refitted the belt that had come off, just done a spin only cycle at 700 and drum running smooth

Thank you for the pointers in solving this.
    Danny.

PS – is there already a thread or FAQ that explains how socks and other items end up on the wrong side of drums and cause issues like this?

    Re: Zanussi ZWF1421W drum stuck

There is always a gap where the door seal stops and the drum starts. Big, heavy loads can force smaller items into the gap. Have a word with the senior laundry operative about how much is being loaded into the machine – ideally there should be a handspans clearance at the top.

    Hi penguin,

I have a similar problem with my same machine (ZWF1421W – about 2yrs old) the drum is not stuck fast but can be turned but is very stiff. I have checked the impeller and removed what looks like to be bits of the wifes bra – but alas drum is still hard to turn.
I notice you mention heater removal – can this be done by a rank but enthusiast amateur?? thanks for your help.

Not a particularly difficult job, bit of force required. Remove plug and rear cover. Heater is at the bottom. Make a note of where the wires go and undo the nut, then decent sized screwdriver to lever it out with.

Be warned – they don’t always want to go back in. A smear of washing up liquid on the rubber helps.

    Edited – can’t spell.
