ParticipantHello
My Zanussi ZWF1440W (PNC: 914517516) completed a wash with no problems. When I went to run another one I shut the door, switched it on and the interlock cycled very quickly and a moment later a track on the control board blew, the house lights dimmed etc.
I bought another “working” control board which shows no signs of life at all despite being from the same model machine and having the same software number. However I did confirm where the blown track on my original board went and so repaired it. Now with the old board in it will cycle the interlock as before, the display on the fascia board doesn’t light. I’ve also got a good spare interlock which behaves the same way.
This is where the track blew. It’s where the track from the negative side of cap C41 passes through onto this side of the board. The cap also melted a bit on its negative side so I replaced it.

The board in the pictures is actually the replacement so there’s no repair visible, it’s a Procond 451517403.
I’m not sure where to go from here. I’ve repaired quite a lot of white goods but never really got too deep into the electronics side of it and am rather out of my depth. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you

the door lock I think is the solenoid type so it goes click click etc. Also inside the lock is a small heater. It is not uncommon for the heaters in locks to go pop blowing holes in boards and components as it does
there are also 3 machines with the same model and it may have different software loaded on the board
there is prod code 91451751600 and 91451751601
they both have different display boards so the new one is probably from the wrng machine
trace the wires from the door lock back to the board and see if there are any damaged components anywhere else

Hi Dave
Thank you for the reply.
Yes it’s a solenoid type but it appears to function correctly, that is it works and measures up the same as the known-good spare. I opened up the original to look for any damage and there’s none to be seen.
The wiring for the interlock is good. I have swapped the boards back and forth a couple of times in case I’d made an error fitting one or the other but I’m consistently getting the same symptoms as above.
The software number is the same on both boards, I made sure of this before buying it. I’ve changed control boards for used ones in several ELX machines and never had a button-board compatibility issue before, maybe I’ve been lucky?
Oh yes, my PNC has 01 on the end. I don’t know why I left that off before..

the door lock has a heater inside it even though it is the solenoid type. the lock need a mains power feed across terminals 2 and 4 before the programme starts to energise the heater in the lock before the programme is started. If this is not energised then the lock will click and normally displays an E40 fault
you need to have a really close look at the board for damage. the lock get it feed from the following
live seems to come from the selector switch on the front of the machine. therefore it should be possible to turn this on with the plug out, and use a multimeter to test between the plugs live pin and pin 4 on the door lock. You could also try a continuity check between the neutral and pin 2 on the lock. if either fails you need to investigate why. the neutral goes through the board on plug J12 contact 2dave
