Zanussi ZWF16070W – Red Light flashing before end of cycle

This is a 3yr old machine which has just started to play up. When the machine reaches the end of the cycle, typically just before spinning the start button flashes red and stops.

If I press the start button it will some times continue to the end of the cycle, on some occasions I have to switch the machine off at the mains, switch it on then press the start button to make it work.

I have checked the following:
1. Door lock in body of machine has been tightened
2. Drain Filter has been checked – empty
3. Pump has been removed and debris (hair clips etc) removed, none jamming pump at the time.
4. Motor brushes inspected, both look okay
5. Water level indicator – vacuum switch? checked, when blowing into the vacuum hole I can hear the diaphram moving.
6. I have not been able to find any unbalance switches on the machine (don’t know where to look) but the manual says that it has them. However the washes we are doing now are no different to the past and the problem occurs on all washes now regardless of load, so unless a switch is faulty I don’t think it is a physical balance issue.
7. I read somewhere that if you press and hold the start button and the button to the immediate left it will provide a set of flashes indicating an error code. I get 15 red flashes followed by 1 green when I do this – can anyone advise what this means (if anything)?

I’m trying to establish if the problem is likely to be the circuit board – expensive to replace and given that the door seal to drum needs replacing anyway if it is the circuit board I’m off to get a new machine. If it is the water level indicator that is faulty I’m inclined to fix it. Any suggestions re the problem or further diagnosis steps would be appreciated.

As you may be aware diagnostic information is not given out to the general public.
The flashing code described can indicate two things,
(A) that power has been interrupted to appliance, this is simply that you do not know how to acess the procedure correctly or are doing it wrongly
(B) water has not drained completely, this can be due to a blocked pump impellor, hose etc.
Appliance runs pump for a few seconds at start of every programme to reset water level, if at this stage electronics do not recognize a change it shows a fault code. The vacuum switch you refer to is a delicate digital device which tend to be damaged by someone blowing into them.
