I’ve been called to the above m/c to which the customer has fitted their own carbons and now the rcd consumer unit is tripping. The motor is now low on insulation but I noticed that when I pulled the earth wire off the motor the m/c overfilled could this be because the motor is corrupting the board ?
I ask as I don’t expect the motor to be cheap and would like to know the board is ok if possible.
    Allan.
PS. the motor was reading less than 1megg.

First off, the motor may possibly ‘clean up’ to improve the insulation reading. Overfilling likely just another fault rather than PCB so further investigation there too required to find out the cause. Pressure system the most likely I should think?

    Thanks Martin.
I did check the pressure system and all was well. It’s a strange one in that it fills a little then trips, with the earth disconected it continues to fill.

Not Sure, I may have to go back and check. I’ll try to clean up motor while I’m there.

A good quality non residue contact cleaner can vastly improve insulation readings on dusty motors, use it a lot on Bosch machines.

I would always be suspicious of a machine a customer fiddled with, turning it upside down is a favorite solution with your average punter when doing a brush change.

Are you sure the overfilling aint linked to something like that? 😯
