Zanussi ZWF1621W ……Grrrrrrrrrrrr

Hey guys,

I’ve owned the above zanussi washing machine for 17months and very disappointed that it has broken down already (given that me and my girlfirend are the only ones that use it….no kids etc!!!)

Ok, problem is this:

The drainage pump KEEPS pumping and pumping with no letting up. It doesnt matter what cycle it is on, the pump KEEPS pumping even though there is no water to displace and will not do anything else!

So, i checked the drainage tube and made sure it was clear…it was, removed the filter door, cleaned out…and still this pumping issue.

Next, checked pressure sensor, 2 clicks when blowing through the tube, two clicks when allowing the pressure to release.

Next, checked all connections no evidence of water ingress and PCB (control board) looks clean with no signs pointing to heat damage. Wiring looks good, so do connections.

Next, removed the control board to properly inspect, no obvious signs so decided to replace.

Replacement control board on…and still exactly the same issue. 🙁 getting rather tired of kicking this machine now (joke!) Next, completly removed the drainage hose and made sure it was clean which it was.

Now, before it broke down, we noticed that after each cycle had finished it would beep…strange. The green LED would indicate the wash had finished and would beep until we turned the selector dial to OFF. The beep was, beep-beep-beep-beep (pause for 3 seconds) and then start again. It has never done this in the time we have owned it.

Im baffled as to what this can be, i fix cars as a hobby and they give me less greif!

Im positive the washing machine is telling me there is a fault and the beep relates to something.
Can someone please help me as im at my wits end, i thought Zanussi were supposed to be pretty good washing machines, they’ve been making them lomg enough!

Sorry, i should add that the water supply has been checked and is fine!

if you make a note of the amount of times the end light flashes then thaat would aid diagnosis

Thanks for your fast reply,

The flashes are in sync with the beeping i.e. 4 beeps at the same time with 4 flashes

The ‘End’ led will flash first – that is the first number of the fault code. The ‘Start / Pause’ led will then flash for the second number eg: E43 will be ‘End’ led flash 4 times then ‘Start’ led flash 3 times.
Also can you clarify if you purchased and fitted a new board or refitted the old one please.

hello,

For some strange reason the machine will now not beep or flash! So i cant check to make sure it is just the end light flashing or the start / pause flashing first.

I have fitted the new board yes but with no joy, the old board is now back in place. Whilst typing this post, i have given the new board one more but try and fitted it, but still no joy.

Does this sound like a pump fault to anyone?

The ‘four flashes’ means F4? . This code ‘family’ is related to interlock faults. Door not closed, failed interlock or door lock triac on the PCB. The second number would give us a very close idea.
Is the new PCB an exact match? They all look identical, but the numbers on the back can differ.
Don’t buy any more parts until you have an engineer look at it. It may well be the PCB, possibly the interlock, but it also may not. There are several PCB’s for this machine as there are quite a few variants of the same model number. The PNC number is the exact type number. 😉 At this point, an engineer visit is a worthwhile option as guesswork is costly and wasteful.
Click Repairs @ in the home page menu for an approved engineer in your area.

I think i may call it a day with this machine, the interlock works fine, i.e locks and unlocks with a time delay and remains locked when the start button is pressed. Before we ordered the part we searched for our model on the Zanussi website, making sure we had the correct machine number and revision (01) this gave us a choice of two main controller boards, 1 which was configurated and the other which was un-configurated (the latter being more expensive??!!) The lady at the zanussi customer services didnt have a clue about the difference between them and fobbed me off……can anyone tell me the differences please? Does it need intiating first or something? P.s the the board i replaced it with is indeed identical to the old 1.

messing with the machine, if i hold my finger down on the start / pause button it beeps 3 times and flashes the start / pause and end LED’s,

any ideas???

To configure the board you need a number supplied with it. This is entered into the board’s memory using the buttons on the fascia. Not an easy task and one we cannot advise on as PCB problems can arise from incorrect configuration. The inactivity of the new PCB would suggest it is one that is not configured. If you have purchased the PCB from Zanussi then they should have supplied you with a configured unit, but as you say, this could be in doubt. You can only get the correct PCB using the PNC number of the machine. I have 5 PNC numbers for ZWF1621W on my screen, using Zanussi’s own software.
If it’s any consolation, a new machine will almost certainly be no better than what you already have, and probably worse. An engineer will cost about £45 – £55 and you could well have a working machine quickly. The other way means £300 + the new PCB which is now wasted. At least consider the repair option. 😉
