zanussi zwf1632w washer wont move on to next step in program

Hi, model no. zwf1632w. Only 2 yrs old but will not move onto the next step in the sequece. Will wash but sticks before it switches to rinse. I have to switch it off and select the required program again then skip wash and let it start from there, it then completes the wash as normal.

I have done the self test going through from 1 – 8.
1 – locks door and fills
2 – fills
3 – fills
4 – nothing
5 – fills for about 6 secs
6- spins both directions and fast spin
7 – drains and spins
8 – unlocks

Should 4 do something???

Also done the fault diagnostics and i get beeps and flashes. 2 on the start/skip and 5 on the end light. Dont know what they mean though. I would be greatfull if anyone can advise or point me in the right direction. Have had pcb out and tightened all multi plug connections as well.

step 1 should be led check, step 2, 3 and 4 are solenoids, and 5 should be the nothing happens one.

if you know how to use diagnostics, you should have access to the error code listings and how to read (and interpret – !?!) them, if not then you need to sign up for trade access as this info is not normally distributed in the public forums for H&S and liability reasons…

and which pcb did you check out of interest???

No digital display on this model just buttons and lights. Hence no error codes just beeps and light flashes. You find out how to access error tests etc by searching the web as i have. Cant interprit them and would be greatful if someone who has access to them to help me here if possible.

PCB was the main board or timer not the one behind the front facia. Any ideas??

scott, the flashing lights are the error codes, its implying a motor fault, and being 1600 spin and manufacturered in 2006/7 id of said carbons, but as you have only had it for 2 years, it wouldnt normally ramp up to full spin on diagnostics if that was the case. it might be worth checking motor’s plug connection too.

always plug out first before inspection

where is the machine kept, indoors in warm? garage? damp utility room…?

my first port of call on any zanussi, regardless of fault, is the fluff filter and sump hose to pump, below the drum. a blocked filter causes the senstive electronics to get into a right tiswas, and can give out spurious errors so its always important to make sure the basics are sorted – check for clear drainage, and make sure you have water going in.

. if there is anything in the sump/pump/filter, you need to access diagnostics again, turn dial to position 10, where the start/end leds flash and then clear it by holding the start/pause and skip buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds to clear the error code. then turn off turn on turn off and turn on then off again. then restart diagnostic routine from scratch, giving each click (except first all-led one) 2 minutes to allow for full checking.

Thanks for the advice.

The machine is in utility room, heated and dry.

Is the fluff filter in the drain hose to from the drum to pump? Will check this out as well as carbon brushes on motor this weekend as the machine does alot of work for its age.

My wife has just said she thinks the clothes are coming out wetter than they used to indicating maybe it isn’t on full speed spin or maybe nor draining as well as it should.

When you say turn dial to position 10, it hasnt got a dial. Can i do it by setting up a wash cycle then skipping steps until only end light is on???

Hi Ghandh1,
i cleaned out the rubber hose from the drum to the drain pump and the hose from drain pump to drain. There was some money (nice) and some wire from wifes underware………..

Checked motor brushes (bout 1″ or more carbon left) and plenty of tension on brush springs.

Tried a wash again and it got stuck towards the end of the wash cycle again.

Is the light for the filter always meant to be red when illuminated to show a fault, in other words it only normally illuminates when a fault exists.

Still getting 2 flash/beeps on pause/start and 5 on end light. What does this mean?

Motors fine, drain is fine, door lock is fine, filling is fine, it heats the water OK, it spins (variable and full speed) and it empties. Why wont it advance to the next step after a wash???.

There is a drum inbalance mechanism, could this be at fault, where/what do i look for? Is there a check i can do to check the pressure switch.

Confused…….. Washing completed a full cycle last night but tripped again this morning. It seemed to begin a fast spin from standstill and tripped about 1 second into ramp up to speed.

Could this be a drum inbalance problem. Does anyone know how to check.

Does the 2 flash/beep on start/pause and 5 on the end light point to a specific fault during diagnostics.

E52=motor faulty, possible armature is reading short to earth, you’ll need to have it checked with a Megger or similar.

New motors are expensive…bummer!!

I have a megger but am not brilliant with it, any pointers as to which way to check the armature etc greatly appreciated. ie, which pin in the multi plug and does the machine need to be on performing a wash, see told you i’m not much good with these things 😆

There should’nt be low reading to earth from any of the pins, if there is it needs replacing

Hey Scott: Do you have a Megger or a Multimeter? A Multimeter checks Voltage / Resistance etc whereas a Megger outputs 250, 500 or 1000 volts for testing. When checking the motor with a Megger make sure you unplug the wiring from the motor & test from the motor pins to Earth.

ALLWAYS MAKE SURE THE APPLIANCE IS DISCONNECTED FROM THE MAINS BEFORE OPENING IT UP.

Can i test the motor with the multimeter, if so, please explain how.

Hi Scott: Don’t worry about it we all make mistakes. You can do a basic check with a Multimeter, Set your meter to the highest ohms range & check from each pin on the motor connector to the metal motor frame. There should be no reading between any pin & the frame, unfortunately making these tests with a Multimeter is not really conclusive as the Motor insulation may break down at the normal mains voltage but still show open circuit to the low Voltage from a Multimeter, thats why Engineers use a Megger for these tests. Do you have a local Electrician you could get to do it for you?

Have done the multimeter test and it read 1 at beginning of the test and didn’t move at all regardless of which multi plug connection i was testing. Think i will remove motor and get it tested properly at work.

Any idea if these motors are readily available/common to other machines. Its a 1600 rpm. It has 9 pins on multi plug and is type-20584.603 AC-EL. CL.B/F Manufacturer – ACC
