Zanussi ZWF1640W Drum will not turn

Our Zanussi ZWF1640W has judt stopped on us, loaded it up and set it washing but later noticed that it was still showing 1 min to go about an hour after it should have finished. Set it to drain and it drained away but stopped on 1 minute for about five minutes until we switched it off and reset it that way.

Set it for a 30 minute wash and it fills and the time counts down although 1 minute on the timer takes about 4 (must be using the Caribbean timescale), but the drum will not turn a tall.

I have taken the top off and checked the belt is on and the drum rotates freely, but after that i lost………. any ideas

Are they easy to get to, and do they usualy just go, i would have thought that by rotaing the drum by hand it would also move the armature.

Info on brush motors HERE.

The motor is under the machine, so access is restricted but not impossible.

Stay safe, power off first.

which is the best way to get access (lie it on its side etc)

I tend to just lean it back to a good angle. I get to lie down on the job then…….

Had it on its side messed about with the brush’s clean the comm and it started working again.

I will replace the brushes as soon as posible but what size socket will i need to get the holders off as i could only get one screw out and the others are starting to round.
