My machine washes well but stops at 0.01 minutes and does not complete wash cycle. This has happened more than once on different selections. After several hours I turn it off and leave it overnight and the door then releases in the morning.

Also, I cannot run the same programme twice without first resetting the programme selection dial (Err flashes red if I try to seset using the start/pause button twice as I am used to doing).

I have downloaded and read the manual and I cannot find anything in the manual related to these errors.

Is this a straightforward part to replace or do I need a service call out (out of warranty)?

I am capable of unscrewing things and following written instructions (eg installing PC hardware, disassembling and unblocking vacuum cleaners). Thank you

Most likely the door switch is at fault

I ran a really hot cycle with a powder detergent and no laundry last night in case the problem is caused by a build up of low temperature washes and laundry gloop. It finished normally so I will see how it goes this week to see if that did the trick. This was suggested elsewhere in the forum as a precautionary maintenance cycle

Given the fault my guess is your machine is three years old as thats about the time they fitted a cheap door switch to cut costs but give’s the fault you decribe ( most of the one’s ive seen have a serial number begining 9 or 8 . If so and you have then even if its now working again replace the door switch!

Thanks for the supplementary info. I’m sure you’re right as it’s just happened again. I switched it off, left it an hour, tried again and it was still stuck, then I banged the door catch firmly and it released.

I’m off to check if I can fit this myself (I already know that I can’t reverse the door without using an electric device as it’s too tight) and I’ve disconnected and pulled out the machine and I can’t see what to unscrew to get in there…

OK. Found the instructions on the “Help and Support” part of this site. Read through and seems do-able. Unscrewed the access plate, removed the retention band on the door seal and checked out the door interlock (wiped the contacts – no sign of deterioration or burning). Checked out the part in the “Store” part of this site and then compared with two other sites. Rang local spares places and none had it in stock. Ordered from here (cheaper by a tenner).

Reassembled the door lock and husband re-sealed the door (as I was going out). Now my interim measure of turn off the dial-set and tap the door catch firmly to release the door is working until I receive the part and fit it. I’m happy.

My machine with this same model number has also been playing up. The serial number begins 9145…. I took a clean load out this afternoon, closed the door, and it wouldn’t let me re-open it for about an hour! Any ideas if this is the same door switch problem? 🙁

I’m interested to learn about the red light flashing when I’m trying to put another load in on the same programme…. I have found that I have to turn the programme selector away from the one I’ve just run and back again otherwise it won’t let me press start – you just get the red light flashing and it refuses to start. Is this not how it should behave? 😕

    Many thanks
    Richard

Re: Zanussi ZWF16581W sticks with 1 min to go

When my machine was new I was able to simply press the start button twice to wash a second load on the same setting; once to reset and again to actually start it. This started to flash red ages (months) before the door lock began sticking. I have to confess that while it still works I have yet to replace the faulty component. I know it’s wrong but I turn the machine off with the selector switch and give the door catch a sharp tap and the door releases. It needs the 10-2 minutes but as it used to be the alert audio signal that told me it was finished it is normally much later when I remember so it just opens straight away.

The red light still flashes if I try to restart without first turning the selector switch. I confess to being disappointed in what was purchased as a Which Best Buy selection. I hope this helps a bit
