No its not normal, is the drum noisy when you spin it by hand, is there any sign of up and down play in the inner drum?
If it is very noisy with a deep rumbling noise when spun round then its likely the main bearings have gone.
Remove the mains plug, take off the lid and check to see if the drum is a screwed drum or one of the dreaded, welded drums. If its the latter then bin it.
Even if it has the screwed drum a bearing change on one of these is a major strip down, most definitely not a simple DIY job.

It would help us if you could describe what sort of noise it is, e.g. rattling, grinding, etc.
Simplest thing to start is when the machine is empty unscrew the filter cap that’s behind the little door on bottom right hand side of machine. With a torch inspect inside for any hair clips, coins etc that could be rattling around. If there is nothing there drain pump could be knackered, usually impeller breaking away from pump shaft. You will need a new drain pump, moderate DIY to fit.

The pump will make a loud noise the instant some foreign body gets into it but will also make a noise if the impellor comes adrift.
When you say, ‘just bought it’ was it second hand or new?
If it is second hand then pump failure is not unusual and is never, ever a reason to get rid of a machine.
If it is new then you should contact the retailer or service agent ASAP.

im hedging my bets on the transit bolts as its just been bought…?
if so be prepared for a service force bill if it is (inability to read manual) of approx 69+vat…
or alternatively check to make sure there arent 3x bolt heads visible in the back of the machine (positioned in an triangle shape) and if there is cancel that service call quick…

yes the machine had just been bought and YES i had removed the transit bolts.
the engineer called this week ran 2 diagnosics and could find no fault although he did agree the machine was noisy
after checking the machine he said the pump was vibrating in its bracket and the cabinet was vibrating. he moved the pump bracket and leveled up the machine again. the noise has stopped. 🙂

super duper 🙂
glad its all been sorted but am also surprised a loose pump caused the level of vibration that you described. but as vibration has now gone, then thats all that matters 🙂
