ParticipantI have recently noticed there is an ‘electric smell’ during and after spin. I have cleaned the filter and there are no bits in there. There is water under the drum, so don’t know if thats all supposed to drain away. Also when turning the drum, it is not silent, should there be a noise like a ‘clicking’. I have obviously turned the drum before but can’t remember if it was silent.
I would be so grateful if anyone can help with thisOctober 19, 2014 at 7:40 pm #420596iadom

Sounds very much like a failing main motor. 🙁

Thanks very much for your reply.
Oh no – I was hoping it was something simple. Have you any idea how much this would cost to repair. Hard question I know. I’ve only had the machine about 3 years. 🙁October 20, 2014 at 10:11 am #420598iadom

Have look inside the door to see if it says made in PRC or made in China, it it does then I wouldn’t waste any money it TBH. 😥

Thanks again for reply. Can’t see anything with PRC or made in china, just the label with CE kitemark, serial number etc

If it was made in Italy it would say that on the rating plate, not sure about that model but a lot of recent Zanussi washers have been coming from China and they are rather poor.
Removal and inspection of the main motor is the only way to be certain but if it makes a clicking noise as you spin the drum that is usually a sign of commutator failure inside the motor, accompanied most times by a smell and eventually a bang. :eeek:

Dependant on the product code (PNC number) the ZWG7160P was either made in Porcia Italy or Olawa in Poland. Nothing Chinese about this gem from the Planet Zanussi people. 😉

Thanks Martin , wasn’t sure but still sounds like a goosed motor, in fact it could even have a Chinese motor fitted. The most recent AEG(Zanussi) I wrote off had a Chinese inverter board in it, blown by a duff motor. :rolls:
