When switched on , the wash, temperature, spin speed and options LED’s come on as they should, but I cannot programme it. It’s as if it’s frozen. When I try to set the wash, temp, spin speed or options, the individual bank of LED’s all light up and it beeps three times. I have tried holding down the start/pause and skip buttons, and switching on, as suggested in the uk whitegoods fault code guide, but to no avail. I can’t be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure, but I thought that when switched on, the door should lock prior to programming. It doesn’t, but I’m not sure on that one. Could it be as simple as interlock failure? Any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated. Steve.

Interlocks tend to blow the module so from what you say. I would whip the module out and have a close look for cooked tracks?

Try in a new interlock first anyway. A lock can damage a module but a module would be extremely unlikely to damage a lock! If it then works, you can carry on to next job, if not then whip out the pcb or suggest she call Zanussi if it’s under 2 yeras old.

Fitted new interlock, and the fault was still there. Checked module and it’s fine to look at, nothing burnt out etc. I’m thinking that the module is the only possible solution, faulty processor etc. Any other ideas please? Could I be missing something obvious? Cheers. Steve.

have you checked the heater as earth leakage upsets these pcbs.

What’s the water hardness like in your area, Steve? Down here it’s very soft and consequently I’ve replaced about one washing machine heater element for every year I’ve been down here. If you’ve got hard water though, that could be much more likely. I’ve had low insulation on motors (damp) cause similar problems. Unplug motor for quick test.
When I get a machine that’s foxing me I assemble all suggestions and my own ideas and make a list to go back with. Tick them off as I check them. Saves forgetting something and helps to prevent getting sidetracked.

Thanks for that Mike. Water is pretty soft round here, not like in some places, Manchester for instance, we can’t walk on it 😀 hehe. No joking apart. I’ve been back today and been through this machine with a fine toothcomb. Checked every conceivable part for continuity and insulation, checked both brushes, just in case, I’ve had uneven wear before, motor tests out checked that there was no debris in the pump. Fill valves check out, everything. Tried another thermistor Then I went round and unplugged every thing one at a time, and tried again. Nothing until I disconnected the cold valve, then its behaviour changed. It still wouldn’t work, but now the end light was flashing and it beeped seven times, and continued to repeat this. I blew down the pressure switch, it seemed to be working ok. Then I disconnected the lower pressure switch plug and tried again, the idea being that I would disconnect each of the three plugs in turn and see what happened. When I did this, the door latch operated and the pump started working!!! I refitted the plug and tried again. Now it worked as normal. I tried it several times and it worked every time. Perhaps it is a sticky pressure switch? I have left it washing away and the customer is going to ring me and let me know what occurs. I should add that the problem began when they went on holiday and left their son in charge 😀 . So at the moment, it’s working but I am none the wiser as to why. Don’t you just hate that? I’ll keep you posted. Steve.

did you insulation test the heater as this is a classic fault on thia appliance.

Interesting way of doing things. Must keep this in mind for when I’m stuck. Hope you get a call to say all is well in a fortnight’s time. Similar things do frequently happen, don’t they.

Mike, Yes it is a trick I learned when I worked for hotpoint. I was lucky enough to work with a guy who did just what I have done today. He didn’t like to be beaten either, and he would eliminate every possibility. I remember he once did this and the fault was still there, so he replaced the wiring harness, voila, job sorted. It’s time consuming, but if you don’t like to be defeated it has to be done hehe. The most annoying thing is that you get a feeling that there is not much wrong. Bob, yes I did insulation test the heater, it checked out ok. Steve.

Just had call from customer. She has done all her holiday washing, plus what her son saved up while she was away, twelve loads in all, and no problem so far. Fingers crossed, but I do prefer to know what was wrong 😀 . Still, mustn’t complain. Steve.
