ParticipantHello all
our zanussi washing machine (1600 aquacycle) is going straight to the drain cycle. i have cleaned out the drain valve at the bottom of the machine, and completed the 2litre water fill routine as specified in the instruction manual, but the machine still refuses to do a wash cycle.
had the machine out and the hose is clean and free, the drain is clear too.
you put it on a wash cycle, you can hear it start to fill thru the draw and see the water rise in the drum, then it flicks to the drain cycle and finishes.
any ideas?
could there be some more foreign objects further up the drain valve that is stopping it?
hope you can help, as this machine has worked perfectly for the last 5 years or so, and washes clothes really well.
many thanks

the drum spins ok, when you select the drain cycle on it’s own the drum spins while it drains

Hi Kev: This is probably a job for an Engineer, the system on this is quite complicated.
The problem you list is normally caused by 1 of 4 things: The heater element, The pressure switch, a Wiring fault or less commonly the control module.
For fault finding you need a good Digital meter & a Megger, even then you would be lucky to find the problem without a manual and some knowledge of Electrical testing.
Andy.PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU DO DECIDE TO TRY A DIY REPAIR, POWER OFF AND PLUG OUT.

Hi Andy
testing is not a problem as i’m an electrician by trade, so the test equipment i already have. where would i be able to find a manual for this machine?

Hi Kev: Sorry but that’s where your problem comes in manuals are not available to the general public & were not able to go that in depth into fault tracing.

will dig it out of it’s hole tomorrow and see what i can suss out.
just as an aside, what sort of money are we talking about if it was the element or the pressure switch for instance?

Hi Kev: if you click on the shop@ link they may well have the parts & prices listed ready for you.
When checking the Element with a Megger make sure you remove the connections to it first.REMEMBER POWER OFF, PLUG OUT PLEASE.

Give that man a cigar 😀
cheers Andy, it was the element. burnt right through where a load of fluff and gunk had been sitting.
was very impressed how it came apart for maintenance.
thanks again

Glad to help Kev, I know it doesn’t look like it sometimes but we all do our best to help people. Unfortunately we can’t tell the skill of the people were replying to so have to be careful for Legal / Safety reasons.
They are actually a very nice machine, I have one in the workshop as a spare, any more problems please let us know.
All the best: Andy. 😀June 2, 2009 at 2:59 pm #281000darkknight

ye really reliable machine for me anyways had the odd problem here n there nothing serious but other than that has been top notch been using it for a while now. ive herd of quite a lot of problems that people are having with this model in particular with the straight to drain being one of the most common but glad to see you got it fixed.
