ParticipantI have problem with my fridge freezer; the freezer works fine but the fridge gets warmed up. So I got it working again by defrosting it manually, but got the the same problem again after a matter of a few weeks.
Since I could revitalise it by defrosting, I presume it must be a defrost related prblem. My problem is that I can’t get access to the related parts. Can somebody show me how to open up the FF so that I can check what parts have gone wrong?
And if I can identify precisely the culprit, will UK Whitegoods be able to provide the parts whatever it may be?
Thanks in advance guys!August 7, 2012 at 8:24 am #378931Seamy

Its not that easy to identify precisely what the problem when we are not testing the appliance, it may be a fan problem, could be a circuit board problem, defrost heater problem, but difficult to quess without seeing it operate.
If you don’t feel competant to repair it, its maybe better that you employ someone who can identify the parts & see whats causing the problem & repair.August 9, 2012 at 10:26 am #378932VKing

Thanks Seamy for your reply! I was just beginning to give up on hoping to see a help reply.
The thing is if it’s a circuit board problem, is it worth repairing? As I understand it, the circuit board costs hundred odd pounds. It’ll be good two hundred plus pounds to get it repaired. That’s why I want to identify the problem (I have background knowledge to do so)myself first before doing anything.
Since my posting, I have managed to get to the parts and waiting for the freezer to defrost.
Anymore advice will be most appreciated!August 9, 2012 at 9:22 pm #378933captaincaveman1

Wont be a circuit board on that model either the element or ntc probes or the evaporator fan is jammed with ice

Thanks a lot for that input captaincaveman1. It means greatly to my decision making.
Last time I had the FF defrosted fully and allowed it to operate without any testing and it’s work fine. However the warning lights are all flashing together indicating a major fault. Since there isn’t a circuit board in this model, it means there isnt any excessively expensive parts to replace. So I ‘shall carry on diagnosing its problem and hopefully repairing it instead of buying a new one which will mean more potential pollution to the environment.
Please more input in helping me to resolve the problem! Much obliged!August 17, 2012 at 8:12 pm #378935Seamy

If its a ZX97/5Si it should have a circuit board. Theres two listed for them in parts diagram for every version, a display circuit board & a main control circuit board.
But of course it may not be the problem, fan is likely slowed up or jammed as cpt’ has posted or defrost circuit is faulty. Fan is at back of cooling evaporator at top of freezer cabinet, not easy to ascess. Careful you don’t damage cabling or pipework getting to it.August 24, 2012 at 2:04 pm #378936VKing

Thanks Seamy!
I presume the circuit boards are located behind the panel where all the electrical connectors for the thermistor etc are?
How to I get to them if the circuit board for controlling defrost cycle is identified to be the culprit? -
