I’m planning to replace the bearings soon and understand the general principle, but would be grateful for any machine specific tips. Does anyone have any experience removing the tub in this (or an equivant) Zanussi machine?
Looking at part diagrams online I’m inclined to think that I should be able to remove the front panel and therefore gain access to unbolt the concrete weight and motor from the tub before it comes out. Is this correct, or must the whole lot be lifted straight up out of the casing?
And is the door seal ring near certain to break during removal as I suspect? It seems to be a plastic clip with interlocking teeth rather than a simple spring/cord engagement. If there’s a good chance it will survive then I’ll see how it goes, but if experience says that they usually break then I’d rather have a new one on hand before I start!

don’t try to remove the weights. if you take them off you will have difficulty putting them back and if no secure will rip off drum
lever door ring off like a bike tyre them separate clip when its off

Thanks, weight lifting it is then!
What about access though – is it possible to remove the front panel and bring the tub out that way or must the front stay on and I have to lift the tub vertically out of the casing?

not sure myself but it looks that way. the earlier model had easier access. just unscew
remove motor, hoses and wiring to heater etc then remove shock pins. you will need help lifting the springs off the top to remove it
you will need to pull the pins on the shocks at the bottom. they are a plastic pin with a barb. slide 13mm ring spanner over the barb to compress it and use pliers to tease out the pin by twisting it
before you even start just double check the tub can be split. it does look like it can but if it has not got a ring of bolts round the middle of the tub it cant

Thanks Dave, that’s helpful.
It looks promising. I’ll get some parts ordered.

I’ll be replacing the tub seal with new, but I did note in one video seeing a professional run a bead of silicone over the top of a brand new seal too. Common belt and braces practice or bodge not to be repeated? (I’m guessing the latter).

never had to silicone a drum and not zanussi units like this. you could very likely get away with the old drum seal but its such a pig of a job to strip it again its not worth the risk
before you order the parts strip the unit. dates I am seeing put the machine being built from 2006 so you may have other problems. check the drum spider for corrosion and check the brass ring where the water seal sits on it for bad wear
bearing kit

https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/1240159 … r-tub-sealthis is the original water seal

as you can see from the picture the seal comes with a pot of silicone grease.
” also says May or may not be supplied with the bearing grease as shown depending on stock, please ask if this is a requirement”I think this is very important. zanussi introduced this to lubricate the water seal and you part fill the channel in the seal and smear a small amount on the brass ring. I always do this when fitting bearings stop seal squeak and will make the seal last longer so the bearing will too

Many thanks for your help Dave, the 13mm spanner tip was very useful. I dismantled the machine today and for the most part am pleasantly surprised at the condition given it is 10+ years old. Case front comes off as expected, so tub/drum removal wasn’t too bad. The spider looks ok (aside from gunk), the shaft and brass ring don’t seem to be particularly worn either – visible bands where the water seal ends, but no roughness felt.
I’ve ordered the bearing kit and tub seal now with courier delivery, so hopefully I can have the machine working again by Tuesday evening and avoid too much nagging!
You mention Zanussi recommend silicone grease is applied under the water seal, though some pictures/descriptions I have seen appear to come with a thick yellow bearing grease instead. I’d agree on silicone for a rubber seal, but the one I have experience with and possess is very runny, e.g. this stuff, so I’m concerned it may not stick around to protect the seal for very long. Do they supply a more viscous silicone grease for this application? I’d be very grateful if a pot could be included with my order if so.

the grease comes with the gen seal but is not supplied with non gen sets. it is certainly worth using and it is just like normal light grease only its a white colour
