ParticipantRe: Liebherrr KlPe 1740 fridge out of control
Two days on and seems to have settled down now that fridge body and food have chilled. Compressor is switching on at 5.5degC and off at 3 degC.
Temp display in fridge has now settled at 4 degC
Looking good 😉 fingers crossed

New stat fitted. Fridge working again (running on/off between 7.5degC and 2.5degC according to electronic thermometer placed about 1/3 up from bottom of fridge).
Back to some kind of normality !!
Temp gauge in fridge currently showing constant 6 degC (as with previous stat when it was functioning). Setting dial on stat currently set 3/4 fully clockwise (as previously).
I did notice that the digital temp indicator on the control panel took around 2 hrs to drop from 9 to 6 degC despite the fridge having cycled at least 10 times (and electronic thermometer having been displaying average of 5 degC for most of that time).

Thanks Eldar59
Will do. Stat should arrive today/tomorrow. 1850mm long capillary seems plenty of length to reach bottom of evaporator panel.
Fingers crossed !!

If I’m seeing -5degC on my electronic thermometer when supercool is selected does that possibly suggest a pcb issue?
The pump does switch off after around 30mins, so it is receiving a signal from somewhere, however it doesn’t switch on again (during its 6 hour time cycle) and temp then continues to rise up beyond 9degC
Throughout all of the above, the temp readout on the fridge display is showing 2degC constantly (where does this get its info from, the thermostat or the air sensor?)

Unfortunately I can’t wait 3 weeks for a Liebherr part. The Ranco part is suffixed with same part no. as the original part and has 1850mm long capillary, so hopefully this will be a fit.
The fridge is currently being run on supercool to keep contents cool and my temp probe has shown as cold as -5degC. Does supercool also rely on feedback from the capillary bulb for control or is there another feedback system?

Guys…
Liebherr 6151028 thermostat is on back-order (3 weeks) with no stock in the country as far as I can ascertain (after many enquiries this morning).
I have located a Ranco K57 thermostat which is claimed to be compatible. Would you agree? Less than half the price of the Liebherr original.

Many, many thanks Eldar59 for your invaluable advice last couple of days
Will look for quick supply of thermostat and will have a go at fitting

No, use of a plumber was never my intention – just blurted it out subconsciously!!
Thanks for those instructions. Does capillary tube normally slide through sleeve easily or can it get stuck enroute? I guess the bend between horizontal and vertical is the likely problem area…
Where would you recommend I obtain thermostat for shortest lead time?
Many thanks

Sorry, it was local refrigeration specialist quoting those prices (Lewis Electrical Services, Darlington). Don’t know why I said plumber!! Too much alcohol last few days!!
Looked for the part on here (i.e. uk whitegoods). Not spoken direct with Liebherr (they reopen tomorrow)
Could this be done DIY? Does the display panel just pop off? Does the probe just slide into position or is it tricky to get it to feed into its required position?
Thanks again

Thanks for your response and confirmation of the root cause.
Checked availability of 6151028 and showing as 15 to 26 days!!
A local plumber has quoted £68 call-out and another £25 per 15mins in attendance. Does this sound reasonable?
Is thermostat replacement easy to DIY or does it require special tools/skills?
Thanks and regards (and Happy New Year!!)

In last few minutes (subsequent to previous post) temp went up to 8degC. Switched power off/on to see if that might reset something. After the power reset, the display shows 0 and F alternating. What does this mean?
After a further few moments display showing 9degC. Hoping pump kicks in before we go out…
If not, will have to activate supercool to get temp down
Pump hasn’t kicked in. Pressed supercool and indicator illuminated, but no pump activity. Switched power off/on, alternating 0 and F again then 9 degC. Supercool pressed and working this time.
Help !!!

Fridge displaying 2decC again this morning (but not feeling particularly cold in there). Supercool had been used last night, but that cancelled itself at 11pm.
I briefly switched supercool on then off again and now the display has jumped to 5degC
Fridge pump has kicked-in and it appears that temp now being controlled
Is this suggestive of thermostat/temp probe issue rather than pcb?

Service number is 9951120-02
This morning temp is showing 5degC, this being what I would have expected having turned the dial more clockwise.
Any thoughts as to the strange behaviour? Dodgy temp probe? Loose connection?
Dave
