I had a bit of time today to get a look at the machine and although i don’t know much about them, i went through the basics that might have been causing the problem.
The water didn’t start to fill the machine like it had done before when i turned the water supply valve back on.
1 thing that id read was how to do a diagnostic check and when i tried that, there didn’t seem to be any error code.
The start/pause light and the end light just kept flashing and beeping simultaneously and i stopped it after 30 beeps and flashes.
When i was doing the reset, i moved the cycle select control to O, turned it to the spin icon which is next to the O and as i was about to turn it back to the O there was a sound of water filling the powder drawer.
I pulled it open to have a look and the water was going into it like it normally would on a wash cycle.
I let it the machine carry on with what appeared to be some kind of test cycle before switching the control to O and trying a proper cycle but once again the machine wouldn’t run 1.
I disconnected the u-bend under the sink and the connecting pipes to clean them and although there was a lot of built up sludge, which i cleaned out the pipes, the machine still acted the same way once it was turned back on.
It was about 3 years ago that i replaced the brushes on it so i wondered if they were the problem again but it had been doing some kind of cycle when in the diagnostic mode so that didn’t seem to be the case.
The only other thing that i knew was to check the big rubber tube that leads from the drum and…..although i didn’t find as much cash as the last time, i did find a couple of quid and 2 quarters of a bank card.
When i connected the hose back up and tried the machine it worked so it looks like its whats been stuck in that hose thats caused the machine to play up.
Thanks anyway for trying to help Muv.
Fingers crossed it will be ok for a while now!January 15, 2010 at 4:17 pm in reply to: Zanussi Aquacycle ZWF W1421 just fills and empties. #308437999andyo

Hopefully it stays that way!
Just want to post the news cos it might help someone else out to know what you suggested worked. Thanks for your help. 😀

Got quoted £22 for a set from a local shop. They didnt have them in stock but they ordered me a set.
I will have a closer look at the armature(after I find out what an armature is). The machine is on every day, quite often twice, but if it works ok for another 6-12 months for £22, well, I could live with that…..just as long as I dont need a new machine!January 12, 2010 at 3:17 pm in reply to: Zanussi Aquacycle ZWF W1421 just fills and empties. #308434999andyo

I removed the brushes and they are worn. Theres only about 3 or 4 mm sticking out of each of them so hopefully this is the problem.
Will get new ones and let you know if it gets my machine working again.January 12, 2010 at 8:45 am in reply to: Zanussi Aquacycle ZWF W1421 just fills and empties. #308433999andyo

Thanks for taking the time to post a possible solution for me.
I will try to have a look at them today but im not really sure if i could tell whether they are ok or not! Will try anyway and i will do a little research online that should give me a picture of what worn/faulty ones look like. -
