ParticipantRe: Problem with ASKO 20003 washing machine (drain pump)
Thx for all the suggestions and as t.d. pointed out, it is much cheaper than a new machine .. ordered it now and will update when it’s all back together, hopefully with good news !

62p for the part (and a mere £12 for the postage) ?

Update – I’ve found out what it is (An ST Microsystems Triac Z0410NE) but can’t find anyone who will sell me just one of them .. help !

Hi Cockney Steve,
Thx for the suggestions, I’ve had a couple of pcb surgeons have a look at it but they both drew a blank as they couldn’t read anything off the component itself. As you say the voltage is 240v and the current drawn by the drain pump is measurable so I will get an electronics text book or two out of the libabry and look into it in more depth (as the washing is starting to pile up !).
If anyone has any more suggestions or knowledge to impart along these lines I would be grateful.
Asko in Sweden have mailed me back (the yanks have not ..) but they sold the last spare board over a year ago. Peter, in their technical department has said that he will forward any details they find if a board comes back to them, but at this point I’m searching the internet for a 20003/4/5 machine or pcb board for sale or just to be able to look at the part.Cheers

Well at least I asked the right people. Thx to all for your input, and if I do manage to get hold of a component layout diagram I’ll update this thread with the details.
Cheers

Not done badly at all, and in fact it still works fine, but the only problem is that the drain pump runs constantly as soon as power is supplied to the machine due to the burnt out transistor. I’ll probably just wire in a switch to operate the drain pump manually unless anyone can suggest a repair or component to replace it with, since the machine is part of the family ..
I’ve asked the UK importers for Maytag/ASKO (who helpfully don’t let their engineers talk to clients ..) and am now hoping for a reply to mails sent to asko in the US and Sweden.
My fingers are crossed.Ali_baba

There wouldn’t be any way to tell what it is by removing the component and measuring the resistance (or something else) between the legs ?

Thx for trying anyway.
If I could pick your brains a bit further though, would you think a generic transistor that might be suitable or will it something specific to this application ?Ali_baba
ParticipantRe: Problem with ASKO 20003 washing machine (drain pump)
thx again for the input.
You may have to be a bit more specific than ‘the three devices at the top of the board’, but if you mean the 3 transistors then the 2 to the right hand side (grouped together) are 3-legged transistors with IRF 840 marked on them and the one standing on its own to the left is a two-legged transistor with HFA08TB marked on it.Maybe this shot of the transistor / MOSFET might help

Nice one, I’ll get hunting for a Triac transistor then.
One thing though, it has a larger heatsink than the others in the top row (which are all marked either IRF740 or IRF 840), would that make any difference to what I needed to ask for please ?Ali_baba

Shameless self-bump

Hi and thanks for the reply.
The info on the board –
“Emerson Electric Electronic Speed Control Division”, “Assembly No. 2514” followed by “20”, “Rev.G”, “Date Code – 0796” then “EA31190”.
On the reverse (solder) side is “EPN 251501 Rev.D” printed into the PCB.And it looks like this –https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/vlRH1ep4cx3C21iAVxvJt9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink
The fried transistor is directly below the big yellow capacitor.

I’ll take anything you’ve got ! You never know, it may well help.
